The Tang Jun scandal was recently dubbed the "fake credential gate" by Chinese media.
According to this article on ChinaDaily, the Ministry of Education has released a list of approved Chinese-foreign jointly run schools, including more than 400 schools for undergraduate education. The ministry also released a college/university list, which includes more than 10,000 colleges or universities from 33 countries, which the Chinese government accepts.
Neither the Pacific Western University, where Tang got his diploma, nor the California Miramar University – its new name – figure on the list.
I am curious about Mr. Jun Tang’s profile on LinkedIn. He recently admitted in public that his PH.D is from the Pacific Western University, not from California Institute of Technology. Then, would he be changing his LinkedIn profile from C.I.T to the Pacific Western University?
I am right. He did! He is smart, isn’t he?
See my post from 7/7/2010 Former Microsoft chief Tang Jun – PH.D. From CIT?

According to the previous article from People’s Daily Online (English), “netizens do not seem to be bothered about where Tang actually achieved his degree or if he owns patents”.

I find the survey result shocking. If I claim that I got my degree from M.I.T, would 76% of the Chinese netizens be bothered by the fact that I actually did not?
Pacific Western University is obviously not California Institute of Technology.
Now I am puzzled why would China’s No. 1 打工皇帝 claim in his Linkedin profile that his Ph.D. is from California Institute of Technology? Did he confuse California-based Pacific Western University with California Institute of Technology? Is it a typo in his CV?

Searched Linkedin, and found Mr. Tang Jun’s public profile. He claimed in his profile that he got his PH.D. in Computer Science from California Institute of Technology from 1990 to 1993.
